BICYCLE CASE AND OVERSIZE LUGGAGE STORAGE at Atlantis Casino resort. If you have large boxes that you need to store during the race, you may bring them to RACER CHECK-IN for storage within the Emerald D room. They may be retrieved at any time after the first finishers begin to cross the finish line on Sunday.
NOTE: All items stored in this room MUST be retrieved no later than 7:00am on Monday morning, 30 minutes after the race course closes. Though the room will be locked throughout the race weekend, all items are left at owner's risk. |

RACER CHECK-IN at Atlantis Casino Resort in the Skybridge. This is upstairs (2nd floor) and literally an enclosed pedestrian bridge which crosses Peckham and connects the south side of the Atlantis with the convention center. Check-in must be done at least 30 minutes before the Pre-Race Meeting. THIS MUST BE COMPLETED BY 400PM, OR THE ASSOCIATED RACER(S) WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE. |

VEHICLE and BICYCLE INSPECTION at Atlantis Casino Resort Parking Lot (please park on the east side of the hotel so that we can find you.) Plan on arriving with all your vehicle signage, lights, triangle, and other safety equipment in place and ready to use. All support vehicles must be checked for maximum width, as well as totem signage, caution signs, triangles, roof lights, and comprehensive first aid kits. Also, plan on showing that all bicycles are safe and race-ready and are equipped, or quickly equipable, with excellent front and rear lights and lots and lots of reflective materials facing in all directions. THIS MUST BE COMPLETED BY 400PM, OR THE ASSOCIATED RACER(S) WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE. |

SUNRISE/SUNSET/TWILIGHT: Using Reno as a reference on Sept 17, Civil Twilight begins at 6:16AM and Sunrise is at 6:43AM, while Sunset is at 7:03PM and Civil Twilight ends at 7:30PM. (Note: For the purpose of race rules regarding at night, "nighttime" is defined as defined as 6:00 PM to 7:00 AM during the event.) Moonrise is 12:34PM and moonset is at 10:55PM.

START AND FINISH LINE HOST HOTEL: Atlantis Casino Resort 3800 S. Virginia Street, Reno, NV 89502.
Rates: $159 on Friday (9/18) and Saturday (9/19) night, but $89 per night on Wednesday (9/16), Thursday (9/17), Sunday (9/20, and Monday (9/21) nights. (As the race begins on Saturday, you will want a room there when you finish, which will be some time on Sunday night / early Monday morning.) Plus 13.5% Washoe County room tax, plus $2 per night City of Reno fee, plus $15 per room Resort Fee which provides guests with both valet and self parking, in-room wireless internet, use of the fitness center, two bottles of spring water per day, extended checkout of 12pm, and boarding pass printing services.
Our group cut-off date to access our rooming block is August 17, 2015. The special booking code, to access our block and special rate, is automatically provided to all registered racers by email at the conclusiong of the registration process.
TOTEMS, NOT RACE NUMBERS: As always, we will continue with animal totems rather than numbers. Each racer may request, or will receive, an animal name that must be posted on all four sides of each vehicle. Animals are the theme—antelope, bear, cheetah, duck, etc. Be sure to memorize your totem; this is how you and your crew will identify yourselves to time stations and race officials. Returning racers will have the same totems as before. New riders may request a specific animal totem when they submit their entry form, however only Chris Kostman can officially assign animal totems, following a special ritual ablution and spiritual practice. Totems, whether nickname, mascot, alter ego, second identity, or spirit guide, are permanent and non-transferable.
OFFICIAL FINISHER'S DISTINCTION: To finish The 508 is a noted accomplishment in the world of ultra endurance sports. The time limit is 50 hours for solo randonneurs, 48 hours for solo entrants, and 46.5 hours for teams.
AWARDS: All solo and team OFFICIAL FINISHERS will receive a finisher’s medal at the finish line. They will also receive an OFFICIAL FINISHER'S jersey, produced by PACE Sportswear, at the finish line. PERMITS: This event is held under special use permits from the Nevada Department of Transporttion, and is overseen by the Sheriff's office for each of the six counties through which the event passes. (If one of these agencies won’t issue us a permit, this race could be cancelled. Please keep that in mind!)
OFFICIAL CHARITIES: The official charities of The Silver State 508 are the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and Major Taylor Association. Additionally, AdventureCORPS is a member of 1% For The Planet and the Conservation Alliance. One of the goals of the race is to raise funds for, and awareness of, these organizations.
The Challenged Athletes Foundation was created on the belief that people of all abilities should have the opportunity to pursue a life full of physical activity and of sports. Be they recreational or in pursuit of a gold medal at the Paralympic Games, people with a physical disability are limited only by their access to funding. Since 1994, CAF has raised more than $30 million—allowing the Foundation to satisfy thousands of funding requests from challenged athletes in all 50 states and across the globe.
Eighty-nine cents of every dollar raised by CAF provides funding and programs that get challenged athletes into the game. Whether it’s a $2,000 handcycle, helping underwrite a $15,000 running prosthetic or arranging enthusiastic encouragement from a mentor who has triumphed over a similar injury, CAF’s mission is clear: give those with the desire to live active, competitive lifestyles every opportunity to compete in the sports they love.
Athletes, crew, fans, and friends of AdventureCORPS are encouraged to support Challenged Athletes Foundation. AdventureCORPS is also proud to support the Major Taylor Association. The MTA was formed by residents of Worcester, Mass., who became intrigued with the story of the 1899 world champion bicycle racer from Worcester who overcame racial prejudice to become the first internationally acclaimed African-American sports star. The organization's mission is to memorialize Major Taylor with a statue on public land in Worcester, in recognition of his athletic achievements and strength of character—his sportsmanship, concern for those less fortunate, devotion to God, and personal struggle for equality. Further, MTA aims to create a living memorial to Taylor by conducting good works in his name and educating people about his life and legacy.
