Have You Ever Seen Sasquatch Up Close?

By Steven Barnes

Well, here they are preparing for the baton exchange at Time Station 4, in Shoshone. The Team Sasquatch riders are Furnace Creek 508 veterans, and it shows in their exchanges. But you have to look quickly, because as soon as you think you see one, it is gone again. Team Sasquatch says they like the fixed relay handoff points, which are new this year. Fixed handoff points are better than handoffs for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the riders' safety. There is lots of room at time stations, and lots of light as well. Most places along the course, the road is narrow and there are only the support vehicle's headlights for illumination.
