Chris Kostman's 508/RAAM Quilt, made by Shelby Kostman

1992: Was it a man or a woman who first noticed that the position and design of the wheels on this shirt are curiously placed over the, um, chest??? In 1992 we introduced Team RAAM, a relay division with four riders utilizing standard bicycles. I was its Race Director from 1992 through 1996. In fact, it was while I was living in Canada during RAAM 1991 that I came up with the idea of having a team division in RAAM. While I was missing RAAM 1991, I reflected back upon RAAM 1989, when I had served as Race Director of the 1989 HPV Team RAAM. I realized that although the HPVs were too fast and too insane to have in the race, the team aspect was really neat and a wonderful complement to the overall event. So when I got back to California from Canada, I met with John Marino and pitched the team concept to him, offering my services as not only its Race Director, but as the year-round promoter and contact person. And so Team RAAM was born!
