Chris Kostman's 508/RAAM Quilt, made by Shelby Kostman

1985: I eagerly accepted Marino's invitation to work as a Race Official on RAAM 1985. I spent nine plus days in a car with my then girlfriend Mimi Airhart, watching Jonathan Boyer and Michael Secrest battle it out in their "dark duel" across the continent. It was the pivotal, seminal experience of my entire life. This was the shirt that was sold to the public. It remains one of my all-time favorite designs. The funny thing was, the company who was merchandising these for RAAM gave me a trunkload of them to sell on their behalf as I drove across the country, but then never contacted me to collect the money or the left-over shirts. Marino said "keep the cash," so I did. This was the beginning of my becoming a professional race promoter, I guess!
