Andrew Blowfish Bohannon, just after passing Amboy

Move over, Ronald Reagan

Roy's motel and gas station sits on historic Route 66 in the tiny burg of Amboy, just a little while before the Sheep Hole time station. A true desert oasis, Roy's has served hamburgers and milkshakes to generations of hungry travelers. The walls are lined with glossy 8x10 photos of the biggest Hollywood stars, all of who have enjoyed one of Roy's famous burgers. From Marilyn Monroe to Ronald Reagan, the stars’ gazes are transfixed on modern-day tourists in search of something satisfying.

Just as Hollywood stars and California governors fall in and out of favor, the Furnace Creek 508 regularly crowns new champions. Andrew "Blowfish" Bohannon rides past Roy's and into the finish line in Twenty Nine Palms, his victory secure with a lead of numerous hours. Blowfish, a past champion (2000) and RAAM finisher (1998) anticipated his win just a few miles before the finish. "I'm very, very happy. Extremely tired, but happy," he said.

Take it from the FC 508 Webcast team—the vanilla malts at Roy's are exceptional. They should be considered the last true power food. It’s unconfirmed whether or not the Blowfish stopped in at Roy's to power up for the final leg of his journey. And perhaps a congratulatory phone call from the new state governor is expected soon.
