Kansas City. Oklahoma City. Oregon City. California City.

All four towns lie west of the Mississippi River. Only the latter lies directly in the path of Furnace Creek 508 riders. And it's also the site of the race's first Time Station.

Manned for the past three years by Terry Hutt of Running Springs, CA, the Time Station welcomes athletes to the 82-mile mark. First to arrive on Saturday morning was Rick "Akita" Ashabrenner at 11:05, followed closely by the Ostrich and Gregg "Gorilla" Geser of Sisters, Oregon. The Gorilla's crew, fellow Sisters residents, were eager to hit the road this morning in support of their favorite ape.

Over two hours after Akita's arrival, Ken "Niight Eagle" Knutson pulled into town with a smile on his face knowing that he pushed the entire solo field ahead of him. Ken's two sons, Karl and Erik, joined by friend Christine, cheerfully supported "Dad" as he made another attempt to conquer the 508.
