October, 1991. Note the new name, Furnace Creek 508! It was time to get this event out of RAAM's shadow. Also, too many very talented riders were not doing this event, thinking it was "only" a RAAM qualifier. Changing the name and eliminating the April edition have done a lot to build this event into the preeminent 500 mile race in the world!
